Innovation in Recycling

The future of solid waste management lies in the effective implementation of recycling programs, and The Action Environmental Group offers a variety of recycling services to meet any requirement. Whether it's cardboard, paper, plastic, glass, tin or other metals, we can custom design a plan to match your needs. Action will also recycle your construction and demolition debris. We offer certified destruction of confidential documents.

Action provides the expertise to help you implement an effective facility-based collection and removal program. Recyclable materials can be either source separated by commodity or commingled (mixed), depending on the available storage space available at your location. Commingling gives our customers the ability to remove a broad range of recyclable products from their waste stream without surrendering valuable office space.

In 2013, The Action Environmental Group proudly announced its opening of the redesigned material recycling facility located in the Bronx. Within this new material recycling facility is an optical sorter. An optical sorter uses infrared technology to detect and separate all seven grades of plastics, white paper from mixed paper and cardboard from the rest. This allows Action to extract higher quality recyclables out of the waste stream, diverting them from the landfill. The Action Environmental Group philosophy behind the purchase of this vast and innovate recycling center is to lead NYC into the future of recycling.

Our RedWave NIR/C is an optical sorting machine that recognizes and separates the materials and colors in a single step. Different kinds of materials, such as colored printed and non-printed cardboard, catalogues, newspapers, magazines, plastics, etc. can be identified by the RedWave NIR/C‘s near infrared technology.

Recommended Recycling Guidelines

The ease – and importance – of single-stream recycling

Single-stream recycling is the technology that allows all recyclables to be placed into a single container for collection and processing. These are then sold as raw materials to create new items such as newspaper, office paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, even steel and aluminum cans.

This allows our customers to place all clean recyclable items in one container, without the need to separate plastic from paper from cardboard, and so on. Action will pick up these “commingled” recyclables and process them at our award-winning, advanced recycling center in the Bronx.

We encourage all of our customers to make sure that NO food waste (what we call wet waste) goes into your recycling bins.

Food waste destroys the integrity of the plastics, paper and cardboard making them unable to be recycled. Furthermore, food waste will destroy the other recyclables in the bin. This will force material that could have been recycled into a landfill. Help us work together so that our efforts to recycle and make NYC a greener place are more effective and keep "wet waste" out of recycling.

Single-stream recycling in action

Want to watch single-stream recycling happen? Click here. You’ll see how we can designate certain streams of recyclables like mixed paper, white paper or plastic. You will see the green (designated stream) blown in a different direction to separate it from the rest of the waste stream (red). Through this advanced infrared Redwave technology, we can divert more from landfills and collect more material to be reused and recycled.
