Our Heavy Duty Diesel Technicians play a key role in keeping our company running. Without skilled Technicians who know how to diagnose and repair issues safely and quickly, providing an excellent work place for our employees and exceptional service to our customers would be next to impossible.

Job Highlights

Our Heavy Duty Diesel Technicians perform inspection, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, and repair of electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment, including diesel heavy trucks and engines. Utilizing diagnostic software, the Technician is responsible for interpreting failure modes and initiate or assign necessary repairs. At times, the Technician may be on call, and required to assist with emergency breakdowns.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintains advanced knowledge to diagnose and repair mechanical problems on heavy equipment.
  • Performs repairs and assigned preventative maintenance services.
  • Estimates time and material cost on vehicle repairs and requisition of new parts.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles.
  • Completes required paperwork utilizing fleer maintenance software program associated with repairing vehicles, documenting part usage, and accounting for repair time.
  • Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Company safety protocols and OSHA standards.
  • Assists Sr. Technicians in the completion of project work.

Work Environment

  • We are continuously investing in equipment, and many of our trucks are less than 2 years old.
  • The Heavy Duty Diesel Technician will primarily be working out of our Jersey City, NJ location, however occasional travel to other sites as well as assisting with emergency breakdowns will be required.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided.
  • The Heavy Duty Diesel Technician position may be required to lift up to 50 pounds. Frequent squatting and standing is required.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • A valid driver’s license is required. CDL preferred.
  • At least 5 years of experience in job duties.
  • Experience with troubleshooting/repairing DPF systems diagnostic software such as Premium Tech Tool (Mack), Allison transmission, Cummins, CAT, Peterbilt, and Paccar.
  • Yellow Iron experience and/or experience as a Mechanic or Technician for a refuge company is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of applicable DOT and OSHA standards and regulations.
  • Must be able to speak and read English well enough to converse with colleagues, drivers and dispatch, and be able to make legible entries on reports and records.
  • Must be able to meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.

Commercial Dispatcher - Jersey City, NJ

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location: Jersey City, NJ

Job Title: Commercial Dispatcher

Job Description:

The Commercial Dispatcher will report to the Site and Operations Manager at our Jersey City IWS Depot. The dispatcher is responsible for and expected to:

  • Dispatch drivers to calls as they are received, using information on customer needs, driver’s locations/loads and other daily factors
  • Set up crew sheet for commercial routes and notify all employees of their schedule
  • Run and email all driver D.O.T. hours
  • Field phone calls from customer service and customers to appropriate location
  • Review Routeware pictures and driver comments for commercial routes; send any billable extras, pictures, account info and explanations to sales team
  • Review driver requests on Routeware for container switches or repairs and enter service tickets into Tower (our company database)
  • Initiate outbound calls to customers while drivers are onsite, resolving pick-up and other issues
  • Print route cover sheet for Routeware routes and send work to Routeware vehicle computers
  • Print full route sheets for those that do not utilize Routeware
  • Review time-off request forms and enter into Outlook shared calendar
  • Send breakdown reports to maintenance and IWS dispatch
  • Send accident and injury reports to IWS dispatch, safety, and risk management
  • Route and dispatch rack truck for NJ
  • Run reports on route productivity and ensure route efficiency

Skills Qualifications:

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States and 21-years of age or older
  • High school/GED equivalent minimum
  • Dispatch experience a plus
  • Sanitation industry experience a plus
  • Fluency in English, Spanish bilingual a plus

Truck Drivers - Roll Off (NY/NJ Locations)

JOB DESCRIPTION
Our Roll-Off drivers are responsible for the hauling of construction debris typically from large high volume construction sites. The driver is responsible for performing assigned duties on container delivery and hauling of industrial roll-off routes. This physically strenuous position involves mounting and dismounting a heavy-duty truck numerous times each day.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned and may vary by location.

  • Routes may require Drivers to navigate through congested communities and confined or tight areas in city locations. Backing skills are essential as a large percentage of the time spent servicing customers is done in reverse. Our drivers routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts and at times need to climb on to the truck containers to smooth loads or secure tarps for transport.
  • In addition, the position involves lifting (up to 50 - 75 pounds), pushing, pulling, and bending. Our drivers, who have safe driving records, also communicate professionally with customers and dispatch at all times, and comply with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and with Company policies.
  • Required work hours may be up to the legal limits allowed and may require weekend and/or holiday work. Work hours will vary by route. Drivers must be able to read and understand a map, complete daily driver logs as well as pre and post trip truck inspections. This position will require you to work in all weather extremes including extreme hot or cold, wet or dry conditions.

Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
At least 1 year of experience within the last 7 years operating a vehicle requiring a commercial driver's license (CDL).
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements

  • Must have a Class A or B CDL with airbrakes endorsement valid for the state in which you are applying to work in.

Truck Drivers - Packer (NY/NJ Locations)

JOB DESRCIPTION
At Action Environmental Services our Commercial Drivers operate rear load trucks to service commercial routes removing and transporting waste or recyclables in fulfillment of customer contracts. This position will service approximately 200 to 500 commercial customers per day according to the assigned routes. The waste will then need to be transferred to the appropriate station, landfill or drop-off location.
